There are eight laboratories dedicated to the Computer Engineering department where students can perform their experiments and in addition to it the Computer Engineering department also shares few laboratories of Computer Science (CS) and Computer Network Engineering (CNE) department. Laboratories are also proposed to undertake student projects and faculty research. Initiatives are also undergoing to procure more advanced equipment to equip the laboratories, so that the state of the art learning facilities will be available to the students in the near future.
1. Control Systems and Robotics Laboratory (4/2/A)
The Laboratory is equipped with basic instruments and real time hardware from National Instruments (NI), Texas, Inc. USA that is necessary to familiarize the students with the basic concepts and updated technology in the automatic control field and Robotics. The undergraduate experiments are designed to reinforce and expand many concepts covered in the automatic control systems course CPE 310 and Robotics CPE 423. The Laboratory is equipped with special Hardware like Compact RIO, Servo Motors, Sensors, Elvis Board etc. from NI and software like LabView from NI, MatLab and Robotino Sim. The intuitive graphical programming (G Language) language i.e. LabView helps engineers to quickly understand, easy to communicate with hardware and allow things to run by an easier steps with less time and efficient way. Apart from special Hardware it is also equipped with latest computers, projector with screen, HP printer and Wireless Internet.
2. Microprocessor Lab (5/2/A)
In this laboratory, students get the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they learn in microprocessor course CPE 324 and CPE 220 to real hardware and software. The Laboratory equipped with 8086 microprocessor development kits and computers with simulation software like 8085 simulator, 8086 Masm etc. It also enables students to execute real time interfacing experiments using parallel port. The students are encouraged to carry out the mini project in this laboratory.
3. Digital Circuits and Logic Design Lab (10/2/A)
This Laboratory is fully equipped with hardware and software to support the curriculum of Digital circuits and Logic Design course CPE 120. The Laboratory is designed to familiarize students with the Combinational and Sequential Digital Logic Design through the implementation of Digital Logic Circuits using ICs of basic logic gates and some simple digital logic circuits. Lab is equipped with Combinational and Sequential Logic Circuit Kits, Basic Gates ICs, Advanced Computers and simulation software Electronic Workbench. The Laboratory allow students to implement Combinational circuits like Realization of Boolean Equation, Adder, Sub-tractor, decoder, encoder, Multiplexer & De multiplexer etc. and Sequential Circuits like Flip Flop ( D, T, JK, RS) and SISO, SIPO, PISO & PIPO, Counters etc..
4. Embedded Systems Laboratory (11/2/A)
This laboratory is well design to interface students with the real world hardware to make functioning system. It is fully equipped with dedicated latest hardware and software from National Instruments (NI), Texas, Inc. USA to support the curriculum of Embedded & Real Time Systems courses CPE 312 and CPE 411. The course uses PXI embedded controller, motion controller, embedded vision system, SbRIO board as a development platform so students can experience real time systems. Apart from these facilities, the faculty remains cognizant on the objectives of Real time system lab to meet the requirement of conduction experiments in the domain of the Real Time Operating System. The students will achieve proficiency in the use of Embedded Systems theory through exposure to the related real time experiments using LABVIEW software in the various Computer Engineering courses which has Embedded System Specialty. The LABVIEW Professional Development System allows creating stand-alone executables and the resultant executable that can be distributed an unlimited number of times. A benefit of the LABVIEW environment is the platform independent nature of the G code, which is portable between the different LABVIEW systems for different operating systems. National Instruments is increasingly focusing on the capability of deploying LABVIEW code onto an increasing number of targets including devices like Phar Lap or VxWorks OS based LABVIEW Real-Time controllers, FPGAs, and Wireless sensor network nodes.
5. Microcontroller Laboratory (12/2/A)
Microcontrollers are used widely in industry for embedded control and monitoring. This laboratory is well design to interface students with the real world hardware to make functioning system. It is specially design to focus on a degree of control to be exerted by a user. It is equipped with 8051 development board, PIC Microcontroller development board and different interfacing modules which enable courses CPE 420 and CPE 412 to achieve its requirement. The students write code in assembly language using Keil_4_+ to develop a strong understanding of microcontroller fundamental operations. The students are encouraged to carry out the mini project in this laboratory. It is also equipped with advanced computers with internet connection, printers and projector with screen etc.
6. Electronics Workshop (Workshop Building)
Electronics have an exponentially growing influencing our lives. Most of the things used by an individual in day to day life include the contribution of electronics to some extent. PCB’s have definitely contributed in a significant manner as a means of interconnection of various electronic components. The field of PCB designing is a mutual contribution of wide range of various other fields. For example, the knowledge of mechanics, chemistry and electronics design, production and process management is an essential need for the construction of any particular PCB. The PCB is widely used in fabrication of electronics as well as electrical circuits since they provide a base for the connections amongst various components used in that particular circuit. The lab is equipped with all the material needed for preparing a PCB including Raw PCBs, PH meter, PCB etching agent, EEPROM eraser, etc. It is also equipped with sophisticated measurement devices for conducting electrical Workshop like Tachometers, Cable Locators, Mergers' Mega ohm meters, Multi meters, LCR meters, Ultrasonic Leakage detectors, Thermo hygrometer, EMF meter, three phase tester, etc.
7. Digital Image Processing and Vision Laboratory (43/2/A)
The Digital Image Processing Laboratory (DIP), is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to digitize, store, process, and display digital images and video. DIP supports research in areas such as the development of new image analysis techniques, new image and video compression methods, the development of new detection methods, new media, and creating multimedia material for use in media indexing, storage, and retrieval.
Depending on the application, digitizers in the laboratory can produce digital images and video in a variety of formats including JPEG, MPEG and other, several high quality image camera are available to support digital image acquisition at various resolutions. DIP laboratory also has several of USB web cameras. In this laboratory, students get the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they learn in digital image processing and multimedia and data compression courses CPE 410 and CPE 323. In this lab the student will implement image processing techniques that you will learn during the frontal course. Work in the lab will be carried out in Matlab, Sherlock under the Windows operating system. Finally, the Laboratory has a variety of methods used to display digital images and video.
8. Training and Students Project Laboratory1 & 2 (16/2/A & 30/2/A)
This laboratory is dedicated to students’ training and projects. It provides them necessary equipment, accessories and components for accomplishing their jobs. One faculty is always available for students during working hours of the university. It also use for project presentation delivered by students. It is also equipped with computers with internet service, printer, projector with screen etc.
